12:46 am - Festival, Day 2
|
|
Death Note I was so damn cool. Wish I could have caught more of the beginning!
Can't wait to see Death Note II...somehow.
Two days into the festival, and so far so good. Justin Lin didn't make it to his opening night, because of the writer's strike, but he just arrived tonight. We are definitely looking forward to the "In the Director's Chair" Program tomorrow evening.
There wasn't a huge turn-out for our first two screenings today. But, admittedly, Friday afternoon programs are a tough act to sell.
Here's hoping that the last half of our festival rounds up plenty-o-audience, and everything runs as smoothly as it has been during the first half!

11:40 pm - Finally, An Update!
|
Yikes. I keep forgetting about this blog! Sorry to the person who commented on the last entry. I never got a chance to reply.
So yes, the Singer/Songwriter contest is over. The winner chosen by Arc2 Intertainment was Rev Squad, who gave a rockin' performance at the Stripped Benefits Concert at Performance Works, Granville Island on August 30th. The fashion show (featuring Jolie Couture) was fantastic, as were the other bands that performed. Definitely a great night.
Thanks to everyone who participated and to everyone who voted!

5:30 pm - Are You A Musician Of Asian Heritage?
|
|
Ahh. Now that our site is finally updated with our latest event, I can safely write about it:
The Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) aims to support and promote North American-Asian artists. While in the past our main focus had been on filmmakers, we are now officially launching a new event in partnership with Arc2 Intertainment to support singers/songwriters of Asian heritage. The contest steps, rules and regulations are listed at the link provided. Basically, you have until July 16, 2007 to post a video of you performing original music onto the VAFFmusic YouTube Group here: http://www.youtube.com/group/vaffmusic where YouTube voters will have a chance to pick their favorite 3, and the final winner will be chosen by ARC2 judges. The contest is free. All entrants will gain exposure and the notice of ARC2 Intertainment talent scouts. The winner will perform 3-4 original songs in front of a live audience and music industry professionals at Arc2 Intertainment's summer "Stripped" Benefit Charity Concert in downtown, Vancouver on August 16, 2007. Venue TBA. [Sorry, due to a very limited budget, we cannot cover any travel or accomodation costs.]
Looking forward to seeing your video! Good Luck! **PLEASE FORWARD TO OTHER ARTISTS**

11:02 pm - 'Between the Laughter' Post-Event Post
|
|
So generally, all went well for tonight's fundraising event. For a 188-seat capacity venue, I counted at least 67 ticket stubs. I guess that's not bad, considering we only sold 8 tickets during the first week of sales! We were so worried that those 8 would be it! There were probably a few more people in the audience that were VIP, so the theatre looked sufficiently full.
I didn't get to see much of the show, as I was mostly handling front-of-house. People tell me that Assaulted Fish were as brilliant as always. Stephen O'Keefe was also entertaining, but his act was cut a little short? The documentary itself, I heard, was fantastic. I saw maybe the last third of it, and from what I saw, it was very well done. Props to VAFF's own Barb Lee!
Thanks to all the volunteers who helped out, and thanks to Tinseltown staff for putting up with VAFF's invasion of their turf every year!
Here's hoping that our next fundraiser goes as well or even better!
